The Mission of the school-based planning and shared decision making committee is to improve the educational performance of all students in the school, regardless of such factors as socioeconomic status, race, sex language, or disability.
Who can serve on the committee?
Members of the committee including parents, teachers, community members, students, administrators and staff create two site-based teams: one for the Elementary School and the other for the Secondary School.
What does the committee do?
The teams review programs, refine proposals, and/or prepare reports/proposals for the Board of Education in all of the following areas:
Staff Development &
Budgeting – Allocation of Funds (field trips, conferences, instructional supplies and materials, staff development, etc.)
School Calendar Revision/Input
Staffing (Additions, short/long terms, establishing interview committees)
Setting a Positive School Climate
Health & Safety Needs/Concerns
Grant Writing (to evolve)
Assessing Facility Needs
Assessing Student Needs (achievement, programs, etc.)
Communication Inter & Intra Buildings and/or Site Based Teams
Staff & Student Scheduling
Procedures for Field Trips/Conferences
Setting Short & Long Term Goals
Handbooks and/or Code of Conduct
Improve Building Appearance
Sub-Committee Establishment & Membership (e.g. surveys)
Are you interested in serving on this committee?
Each school year, nomination forms are distributed for those interested in serving on the Shared Decision Making Committee. Forms are collected by September 1 and put into a lottery held the first week of September. Committee members are chosen based on the results of the lottery, then divided into teams that begin duties by the end of September.
